Opening Times
The railway normally runs on Sundays from the start of April until the end of October, as well as Saturdays in July, August and September, and extra days on Bank Holiday weekends. See the calendar and Special Events listings below.
Opening hours are 12 noon until 5pm. The railway will operate at other times by special arrangement for groups and private parties.
The railway may not operate if the weather is inclement, so please contact us if you are in any doubt, especially if travelling from a distance.

Face painting with a difference
Children are invited to paint faces for the locomotives. Pick up a leaflet during your visit and enter the competition. Prizes to be won at our event in September.

Easter weekend
The Railway is open for four days from Good Friday to Easter Monday. Our Railway in model form will be on display for most of the weekend. Other layouts as available.

Three days of trains during Wirksworth Well Dressings.

Accompanied Fathers enjoy a free train ride and the opportunity to drive their own train.

Teddy Bears Picnic Weekend
Start the school holidays with a visit to the railway with your teddy bears. Accompanied under 12’s with their bears get a free ride. Unlimited rides for all (space permitting). Sale of bears new and old. Bears to be seen everywhere. Picnic with your bears and watch the trains!

Smiling Faces
All our locomotives will have faces designed by you during the year. Winning entries will receive prizes presented on the train. All entries will be on display in the Engine House.

The Railway will be open every Sunday together with Saturday 18th for Wirksworth Model Railway Exhibition and Saturday 25th for our End of Season Event.

Santa Specials
Our always-popular weekend with Santa gets better every year! Travel on the train right into Santa’s Grotto. A present for the children and refreshments for all. Call for details late November/early December. No need to book, just turn up and ride! £3.00 each, family ticket also available.
